Best FPS Games of 2011
Believed to draw you even further into the character, the FPS genre has been around since a coon’s age now, but a glance at the ideal FPS games of 2011 reveals that evolution of such titles has probably reached its epitome. But on second thought, every time we’ve stated something like that, there’ve come names that have blown our lids with their over-the-top matchlessness. And to raise a salute to such games, we have drawn together a list of first person shooters that came, saw and conquered the genre, one after the other. So without much ado, here’s our take on the 8 ideal FPS games.

Released earlier this year, Bulletstorm imparted an alternate perspective upon the term ‘twisted combat.’ The way weapons are fired, the umpteen manners in which we could kill enemies and the strangely humorous sequences bolstered this title into the huge league right from day one of its launch. Available for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC, this FPS comes to pass in the 26th century and involves a sci-fi narrative.

Developer Guerilla Games doled out this gem of a title bang at begin of the year, providing gamers with an experience which satisfied each and every craving that they desired from a first person shooter. The introduction of 3D and PS Move support took Killzone 3 to a whole new dimension. Its astonishing gameplay was coupled marvelously with its plush graphics. And who can forget the jet packs and weapons that added the familiar Killzone flavor to this title.

The incredible benchmarks set by its predecessor needed to be filled, and Crysis 2 managed to achieve this exploit with sheer effortlessness. The jungle environs which were so brilliantly rendered in the first game were replaced by the ruins of a shattered New York City. Weapon customizations formed a strong point of this game, and so did the CryEngine 3, which truly demonstrated its abilities through this game’s genteel visuals.
4 – Deus Ex Human Revolution:

Although this title stands for the archetype of how any modern day RPG should be made, the fact that it manages to enter our list of ideal FPS games itself talks volumes about it. Acting as a prequel to the original game launched way back in 2000, this title was quick to grab everyone’s attention upon its release in August. It has received considerable acclaim for its ‘pillars’ gameplay. Moreover, its cyber-punk inspired visuals are sure to capture any gamer’s imagination at first glance.

September brought with it one of the most anticipated games of 2011 that certainly lived up to its expectations! Delivering a complete first person shooter experience, this game provided as many gameplay treats with its multiplier as with its campaign. The title’s narrative made use of the emotional angle and hence, never failed to engaging us. Insomniac’s much loved knack of delivering excellent weapons maintained itself with Resistance 3. And a special mention is definitely deserved for its sepia-toned graphics which rendered themselves at pleasant 60fps.

No discussion about first person shooters would be complete without the mention of classics like Doom and Wolfenstein 3D. And when the makers of such dazzling games announced to have created yet another FPS based on a new IP altogether, it was already known that nothing short of superb was on offer with Rage. Vehicular combat was the territory this title tried to explore along with of course, the shooting business. Transpiring in a post-apocalyptic world, it rendered some of the ideal environments ever to have set foot on the console arena.

Now the final two games in this list are as obvious as the sun rising from the east. The end of October brought with it a robustly satisfying first person shooter experience while taking no prisoners whatsoever. Powered by the much hyped Frostbite 2 engine, BF3 stands for the absolute heights to which the FPS genre can be taken to. Its meekly satisfying campaign aside, this game should be undoubtedly praised for its hysterical on-line multiplayer features.
8 – Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3:

If there’s ever school for first person shooters, Modern Warfare 3 will no doubt be our favorite subject. The way this title has re-imagined this genre, is sure to make any gamer fall in love with it. This eighth instalment to the Call of Duty series faces obvious competition from BF3, but we believe both these brilliant pieces of art are ideal poised in their own spaces. Kicking in a marvelous campaign, this game also holds in it a pretty decent multiplayer experience. Moreover, apart from releasing for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC, this game has also spawned itself on the Wii.
So there you have it, our list of the ideal FPS games. The year was packed with some spectacular action-filled titles that quite smoothly left us in awe of them. And as this year draws to a close, the anticipation and hype building up around next year’s games is just inescapable. And we just hope 2012 draws up more such titles for us to feast on.
