Dre’s Tribute To Late Son Too Personal For Detox
Rap legend Dr. Dre is cautious about including a song tribute to his late son on his upcoming album Detox, because he doesn’t want to dampen the tone of the upbeat project.
The hip-hop star is preparing to release his long-awaited third disc later this year, the follow-up to his 1999 album, 2001, which featured The Message, a track dedicated to his deceased brother.
It was speculated that Dre would record a similar tune in memory of his second son Andre Young, Jr., who suffered a fatal drug overdose in August 2008, aged 20.
The superproducer admits he has recorded some music for his tragic child but fears it is too personal to add to the tracklisting for Detox.
He tells Vibe magazine, “I’m actually back and forth about that. I’m leaning towards no because I don’t know if I want to put myself or my family through that.
“I kind of want the record to stay fun. Right now as we speak, I’m leaning towards a no. Though I do have a couple of things that I’ve done (for him).”
