Top plus-size model complains of airbrushing

She said: “When I saw the pics I was absolutely shocked. I sat in silence for a good five minutes. It was not an accurate portrayal of my body in any way. I’m a [U.S.] size 10 and that was a size 2 at most.”

She later added: “I do not know what was done to those pics or who did it, but they look retouched me. And listen, everybody retouches, but do not make me into something I’m not.

“Having had an eating disorder, I know what that very thin body looks like on me, and it’s not something I find attractive. It’s not something I aspire to.”

Nicholas Routzen, the photographer, was asked to comment on the subject but simply said: “I did nothing that I would not do to anyone. I’m paid to make women look beautiful.”

Renn was spotted by talent scouts at “beauty school” who told her they were going to make her a supermodel.

From that point, she said, she went on a drastic diet and started an extreme exercise regime, going to the gym for up to eight hours at a time, for several days in a row.

She stated she only ate lettuce with balsamic vinegar for three years, “to the point I got so ill it became difficult to walk” and she realised she had to change.

She said: “After a year, I decided to change my life and be happy with who I am naturally to gain success not only in modelling but also in life.”

She added: “I remember having salmon for the first time on my salad. I added oil, added walnuts – all of these fun things that when I ate them I remember thinking the world did not blow up.”
