Secrets of Roman Abramovich’s £5m New Year’s Eve bash
Many stayed on the Russian’s 536ft super-yacht Eclipse – the world’s largest private yacht with two helicopter pads, a submarine and two swimming pools – while others stayed on smaller yacht, the 377ft Luna. Despite being almost 200ft smaller the vessel still boasts a crew of 40 people in tan uniforms. Its sister ship the Eclipse has 80 crew members.
The guest list has not been disclosed, but locals reported seeing Star Wars creator George Lucas, designer Marc Jacobs, singer Jon Bon Jovi, Jimmy Choo entrepreneur Tamara Mellon and Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen on the island shortly before the exclusive party. The president of St Barts, Bruno Magras, was also invited to spend New Year at the 7-acre Gouveneur Bay Estate.
Last year, Demi Moore, Rosie Huntington-Whitely, Stephanie Seymour, and Ellen DeGeneres were among dozens of famous names on the invitation list.
Platters of canapés greeted the guests when they arrived, catered by St Barts restaurateur Xavier Pinet and Michelin-star chef Thomas Chiarelli.
Dishes included Russian dumplings filled with island-caught Mahi Mahi and pancakes with a vodka and lemon zest sauce. Locally caught langoustines, lobster and tuna were also served as sushi and Aquitaine caviar topped blinis canapés. Caribbean fruits were served alongside imported strawberries and raspberries.
Chilled vodka and crates of Cristal Roederer and Ruinart champagne were on tap for the guests.
The party, which continued throughout the night, is the Chelsea football club owner’s third-such event on the island.
In 2009, Kanye West and Orlando Bloom were treated to a £3 million party with Beyoncé, Gwen Steffani and Prince providing the entertainment.
The party marks the end of a troublesome year for the billionaire, having spent several weeks battling fellow oligarch Boris Berezosky in a £3.7 billion High Court case in London.
Mr Abramovich and his 30-year-old model girlfriend Dasha Zhukova spent their Christmas holidays on the island with their two-year-old son Aaron.
