Channel 4 relaunched its flagship news bulletin last year, with Jon Snow sharing presenting duties with his younger colleagues Krishnan Guru-Murthy, Matt Frei and Cathy Newman. Snow has, however, let it be known that he has no intention of retiring when he turns 65 in September.

Accustomed to cooking for well-heeled diners at his his eponymous Chelsea restaurant, Tom Aikens is preparing to undergo a culture shock.

The 41-year-old chef is to take part in a tv series with his friend Ben Fogle, The Sunday Telegraph columnist, in which he will learn the cooking techniques of tribesmen in remote regions of Papua New Guinea, the Amazon and East Africa. “I like pushing myself,” Aikens tells Mandrake.

Fogle, 38, says: “Tom’s certainly tough, but he’s used to the good life. How well he copes with slumming it in Papua New Guinea waits to be seen.”

Michael Fassbender has won acclaim from the critics for his performance as a sex addict in the film Shame. He made even more of an impression on the burlesque star Calamity Chang, who appeared with him in a nude scene. “He’s quite… blessed,” she says.
