Gary Glitter’s travel ban lifted
Glitter, whose real name is Paul Gadd, signed the sex offenders register in 2008 after he was jailed for sex crimes against a child in Vietnam.
He was also jailed for four months in the UK in 1999 for downloading pornographic images of children.
In 2008, Glitter was banned from traveling to France and Spain when Kent Police applied to Ashford Magistrates’ Court for an order.
Registered sex offenders must tell police if they want to travel abroad and police can apply for a banning order if they fear the individual remains a risk to children.
But it is understood that the Metropolitan Police have no grounds to apply for a new order after the last one expired.
Police may apply for an order in the future if new information about the former 1970s glam-rock star emerges.
A spokesman for the NSPCC stated Glitter “must always be considered a potential threat to children”.
He added: “If he is granted to travel abroad the British authorities should pass on the relevant information to whichever country he visits so he can be closely monitored.”
