Perth Airport Aust’s second worst: ACCC
The consumer watchdog has rated Perth Airport the second-worst quality in the nation, but it has also come in as the second-best value.
According to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission’s annual report on airport performance, Perth Airport ranked in front of just Sydney Airport in terms of quality, but only Melbourne Airport’s facilities were cheaper.
Brisbane Airport was the only airport to achieve an overall rating of ‘good’ for its quality of service over the last five years.
The ACCC report stated even though Perth Airport’s rating from airlines for quality of service has declined in recent years, it has not been a sustained decline.
The airport has attributed higher profitability and decreased quality of service over this period to rapid and unexpected growth in passengers.
“Perth Airport appears to be responding to airlines’ quality of service concerns through new investment,” the report said.
“Whether the investments made by the airport will address the current quality of service concerns will not be known until those works are completed.
“However, that Perth Airport is undertaking these works and is moderating price increases in the meantime lessens the likelihood that the airport has used its monopoly position to delay investment in services provided to airlines.”
For automobile parking, the ACCC found prices paid by consumers at Adelaide and Perth airports were significantly lower than at other monitored airports.
One hour of short term parking cost $5.40 in Perth, whereas Sydney passengers were slugged $15.00 for each hour.
