Lazy Lands to be put to work
A say government review has identified 61 parcels of Crown land in the Pilbara that are underutilised or surplus and could be put on the market for private development.
Regional Development Minister Brendon Grylls has announced the results of the Lazy Lands residential infill project, run by the Pilbara Cities Office.
He stated the 61 parcels of land will be released in three phases.
“Stage one will see the release of easily developable parcels, while stages two and three will involve parcels where more work is required to create easements, comprehend drainage and flooding issues, or obtain Native Title clearance,” Mr Grylls said.
The first release comprises seven parcels of Crown land in Karratha, which are being made available to the private market for residential development.
“The seven parcels add up to more than 3.2 hectares, and new developments on this land will help enhance older suburbs and attract more developers to the region.”
“With expansions in the resource sector drawing workers to the region and leading to housing shortages, the Lazy Lands project is essential, and will also be run in South and Port Hedland, Newman and Tom Price.
“We want families to settle in the Pilbara on a permanent basis, and enjoy the same quality housing options, amenities and facilities provided in any other major Australian city.”
