Honda recalls thousands of vehicles including Odyssey minivan over brake fault

It affects 2005-2007 models of Acura RL saloons and Honda Odyssey minivans from the 2005 to early 2007 model year.

The latest recall to hit Japan’s auto industry comes a day after Toyota announced a safety recall of 1.5 million vehicles worldwide to fix a brake fluid leak.

The two recalls are linked because the defective parts in both cases were built by the same company called Advics, stated a spokeswoman for Honda.

Toyota, the world’s largest automobile maker, stated the voluntary move mostly applied to vehicles in the US and Japan.

However, the group is recalling 2,081 Lexus models in the UK over this and a separate fault affecting the fuel pump on GS300 models built between September 2004 and February 2006.

Toyota launched a worldwide recall over same brake problem

Honda states there have been no injuries or accidents tied to its brake fluid leak problems.

The automobile maker stated certain types of brake fluid could affect the seal on the brake’s master cylinder and lead to a leak.

If the leaks are left unattended, they can cause a spongy feeling in the brake pedal and adversely affect brake performance.

In March this year, Honda was forced to recall 412,000 vehicles in America after customers complained their brakes felt “soft”.

Odyssey minivans from the 2007-2008 model range were among those recalled eight months ago.

Japan’s second-biggest automobile manufacturer stated at the time the problem was due to air accumulating in a “vehicle stability assist modulator”.

It causes the pedal to get closer to the floor than normal before the car stops, stated Honda.
